Who owns Harloc?

Harloc is a Canadian owned and operated business in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. It was founded by Michael Gibson and Sara Rose and most recently, Natalie and Olivia have joined the ownership team at Harloc.

What makes your extensions better than other companies?

When it comes to hair extensions, people are looking for a way to add length, fullness, and volume in order make a significant and lasting improvement to their self-esteem and confidence. Statistically, 82% of people looking for this, have a fine to medium hair texture. This is where Slavic hair comes into play.

Most extension companies use coarser hair when it comes to the denure of the cuticle. The hair is overprocessed, especially in lighter and blonde shades. This results in the addition of heavy silicones to add a temporary shine, which disguises the underlying quality of the hair. Using Slavic hair with a fine to medium sized cuticle will give you a flawless and natural result – a perfect blend with your own hair. Our hair is never coated in silicones, as we believe in full transparency when it comes to the quality of our hair.

Why are your Tape-In Extensions better than other companies?

Our Tape-Ins are nothing less than exceptional. Our Tape-Ins are engineered in Germany and are the easiest, most comfortable, and most effective way to secure the extensions to your own hair using a medical grade adhesive tape. Say goodbye to long removal processes and sticky residue! You are going to love how simple the removal and reapplication process is with Harloc.

Why are your extensions more expensive?

Harloc hair extensions can be slightly higher in price than the product other hair extension companies offer, because we pride ourselves in using ethically sourced, fair trade, premium quality, genuine Remy, Slavic hair. Our hair is known for its fine texture, lighter colours and superb durability. We will not settle for anything less than excellence and genuine Slavic hair is the diamond standard of hair quality.

With appropriate care and maintenance, our extensions will not fall apart, become tangled, or mat up after a few wears.

Hair Extensions 101

What is Remy Slavic hair?

Our extensions are made from 100% Remy Slavic hair. Remy hair is considered to be the highest grade of human hair – that means the hair’s cuticles are kept intact, and always going in one direction from root to tip to ensure that the hair blends seamlessly with your own hair, and remains silky, ultra-soft, shiny and tangle-free. Slavic hair is human hair from Central and Eastern Europe. It is the highest grade of hair, known for its strong durability, finer texture, and a natural looking result.

How long do Harloc extensions last?

Harloc hair extensions are known for being a superior, quality product. With proper at home care and maintenance, they can last anywhere from 8 months to a year, even when wearing them daily.

Will extensions damage my hair?

With proper care and maintenance, our extensions will not damage your hair. Please seek a Harloc certified stylist or salon to have your Tape-Ins applied. The Harloc Tape-In application is seamless and natural with little to no damage. If you are unable to find a Harloc certified stylist or salon, please have them reach out to us.

Our Clip-in and Ponytail extensions are not damaging for your hair. They are applied using a clip and can be taken out effortlessly within minutes.

Since you are not sleeping with your Clip-in or Ponytail extensions, or wearing them for a significant length of time, your chances of any unsightly damage or stress to your hair are non-existent.

How do I look after my extensions?

Whether you are new to hair extensions or have used them in the past, it is always a good idea to refresh your memory on how to properly take care of them. It is important to get into a good routine with your hair extensions from the start because with regular care and attention, you can ensure your hair extensions last as long as possible and stay looking healthy. Please check out our hair extension maintenance recommendations, below.

Can I wash my extensions?

Yes! You can wash your hair extensions – but with special care. Probably the most important thing you can do when you have Tape-Ins (or any semi-permanent extension) is to wash them properly. This includes how often you wash your hair, the technique, and the products you use!

Please see below for a few key rules when washing your extensions.

48 - Hour Rule

If you have had a certified Harloc stylist apply your Tape-In Extensions – please wait 48 hours before washing your hair. The adhesive needs time to settle and attach to your natural hair. Washing your extensions within the 48-hour window will disrupt the application process and will increase the likelihood of your extensions slipping or falling out. Our Clip-In and Ponytail collections should be washed separately from your own hair once every 5-7 wears.

How often should I wash my hair?

Extensions need tender loving care. It is imperative not to over-wash your Harloc hair extensions. Unlike your own hair, hair extensions are not able to produce natural oils, which is why you should not wash them any more often than 1-3 times a week using a professional, sulphate-free shampoo. Excessively washing your extensions will cause them to become dry and brittle We don’t want that, and neither do you! To help extend the lifetime of your extensions, be sure to follow your shampoo with a moisturizing masque, applied from the midpoint of the extension to ends.

Be Gentle

Harloc offers the most luxurious, premium extensions on the market. Be sure to treat them with the care they deserve. Gently wash them with care, do not scrub or be rough with your extensions as not only will this raise the cuticle, but it could also encourage tangling and matting.

Use of conditioner or hair masques

We encourage you to use professional masques and treatments for your extensions, much like you would use with your own hair. When conditioning, ensure the product does not absorb into the tape or root of your extensions. Your conditioner or masque should be applied from the midpoint of the hair extensions to ends. That way, you can be rest assured that chemicals won’t weaken the tape’s bond.

Use Sulphate Free products

This goes for all our extension collections - but especially if you have Tape-In Extensions. Sulphate free products are your extension’s best friend. Sulphates and parabens are chemicals that are used to remove dirt and debris. However, they are extremely harsh and are used in products such as dish soap and laundry detergent. Using products that contain these ingredients will shorten the lifetime of your extensions - causing them to become dry, brittle, and unmanageable.

Avoid Chlorine

If you are an avid swimmer, you need to be mindful of your Tape-In Extensions. Chlorine is a harsh chemical that can loosen your tape-in panels and cause unwanted hues especially in lighter shades. If you go swimming, we recommend either wearing a swim cap to minimize the likelihood of your extensions getting wet, or keeping your hair tied up and out of the water! We do not recommend swimming with your Clip-Ins or Ponytail extensions.

Can I curl, straighten, or style my extensions?

Of course you can! Harloc Hair extensions are made from Remy Slavic Hair - meaning you can curl, style, and straighten them as your own. In order to extend (excuse the pun) the lifetime of your extensions, keep your hot tool under 180 degrees Celsius and use a professional grade heat protectant.

What about brushing my hair?

How to brush extensions is a common concern for many who have just had a new Tape-In application, or who are wearing Clip-in hair extensions for the first time. This is one of the most frequently searched questions in relation to caring for hair extensions, as many feel nervous about ruining the panels, or damaging the hair extensions in some way by not brushing them correctly. In addition, brushing your hair extensions can cause damage if you are not using the correct tools.

Can I brush wet-hair extensions?

Yes, you can brush your extensions when they are wet. However, this must be done slowly and gently. If you are overly aggressive when brushing your wet extensions, this can cause unsightly breakage and damage to your own hair and the extensions themselves! Proceed with caution.

Can I colour my extensions?

Did you know you can colour Harloc hair extensions just like your own hair? Our extensions are free of any silicones, which means you can say goodbye to an unpredictable result. Having said that, we strongly recommend having your extensions coloured or toned by a professional colourist.

Do not have your extensions lightened or bleached to achieve a lighter shade. Bleaching is a harmful chemical process that will alter the quality of your hair and cause a significant amount of damage.

If you are in-between shades, we recommend choosing a lighter colour. Take your extensions to a professional colourist to have them toned or coloured to a darker shade in order to achieve a perfect match. Similarly, if you have highlights, we recommend going for a shade that matches the lightest highlight in your hair and having a professional hair colourist add lowlights to your extensions.
